Ask any superhero about their superpower and they will all tell you the same thing it's both a blessing and a curse. For both Laura and L that is serenely the case. That superpower is they are selfless and people pleasers and very goal-oriented. For Laura, she is about to change the course of her relationship with her roommate Carmilla. L had a hand in changing the course of our relationship and my life. This superpower also has problems but will get to those much later.
So you've just been bitten by your vampire roommate. What's your first thought? Oh my god but I’m not dead. Then the last person you expect comes through the door the person who just bit you. So Laura is angry understandably so and so is Carmilla again understandably so. All this while Carmilla packs quickly planning her escape fearing that her angry "Mother" is going to kill her. Until Laura steps in with a solution to both their problems. If Carmilla leaves there both as good as dead. She stays they stand a better chance of survival. This could be Laura not wanting Carmilla to leave but I don't think it is not entirely. Laura noticed what happened in Carmilla's story things get hard she runs. Laura in her way is trying to help Carmilla become a better person by learning from her mistake with Elle.
Carmilla notices and is knocked off her feet by this. She heads to the shower after this discussion. Some of my best thinking is done in the shower. When we see the two together again Carmilla is warm towards Laura. She is trying to help her. Carmilla has been swayed by this cute girl. She is fun to be around and if her Vloging is messing with "Mother" added bonus. To Carmilla, Laura is the first person who has cared about her even though she has been awful to her, even though Carmilla hasn’t been the best roommate. Carmilla thinks she still wants me to be safe and happy even though my past isn't the greatest. Wow, I need to change how I have been acting around her how I've been treating her.
Laura and L have this quality about them. They are willing to set aside her own happiness to make sure her friends, her family, really anyone is safe and happy before themselves. We shall dive deeper into this later much later, but a conversation similar to this happened between L and me.
Staring out in college my major was civil engineering a very demanding and rigorous program. I made it through the first year just getting by but the third week into my second year I was in a class called Statics essentially physics and calculus put together and I was failing. My professor came to me and said that I should think about a different major. I dropped the class and was angry at myself the school everything I was really close to giving up. To the point, I wanted to leave school. In stepped L. She said you are really intelligent. What else can you do that you really like? That is how I got into Horticulture. She said you have friends here and you love the University. Why leave and run from your problems when we can handle them together. That is when I started thinking about, do I want to spend the rest of my life with this person?
I like Carmilla was having a rough time. Angry and frustrated in our situations that we were both willing to quit and give up and run away from everything. Then our L's show up and talk us down. Showed us that we were better off staying and finding a new path. And that leaving wasn't the right answer. Their selflessness is what made us fall in love with them. The parallels between Laura and Carmilla are there. Especially in this scene only that L wasn't angry with me but I was definitely in the same place Carmilla was frustrated, angry, and feeling alone.
