Laura and L's Super Power

Ask any superhero about their superpower and they will all tell you the same thing it's both a blessing and a curse.  For both Laura and L that is serenely the case.  That superpower is they are selfless and people pleasers and very goal-oriented.  For Laura, she is about to change the course of her relationship with her roommate Carmilla.  L had a hand in changing the course of our relationship and my life.  This superpower also has problems but will get to those much later.

Afterbite Episode 22.  After Carmilla told her story to Laura and opened up.  Carmilla's "Mother" planed a little rescue for Carmilla which turned into a rescue of Laura.  After Carmilla chases her rescuer down she returns to their room to pack because she protected Laura again.  Afraid her "Mother will kill her.  Carmilla decides to run away to save herself.  Laura however intervenes and this is a big moment for Laura and her starting to care about Carmilla.

So you've just been bitten by your vampire roommate.  What's your first thought?  Oh my god but I’m not dead.  Then the last person you expect comes through the door the person who just bit you.  So Laura is angry understandably so and so is Carmilla again understandably so.  All this while Carmilla packs quickly planning her escape fearing that her angry "Mother" is going to kill her.  Until Laura steps in with a solution to both their problems. If Carmilla leaves there both as good as dead.  She stays they stand a better chance of survival.  This could be Laura not wanting Carmilla to leave but I don't think it is not entirely.  Laura noticed what happened in Carmilla's story things get hard she runs.  Laura in her way is trying to help Carmilla become a better person by learning from her mistake with Elle.

Carmilla notices and is knocked off her feet by this.  She heads to the shower after this discussion.  Some of my best thinking is done in the shower.  When we see the two together again Carmilla is warm towards Laura.  She is trying to help her.  Carmilla has been swayed by this cute girl.  She is fun to be around and if her Vloging is messing with "Mother" added bonus.  To Carmilla, Laura is the first person who has cared about her even though she has been awful to her, even though Carmilla hasn’t been the best roommate.  Carmilla thinks she still wants me to be safe and happy even though my past isn't the greatest.  Wow, I need to change how I have been acting around her how I've been treating her.

Laura and L have this quality about them.  They are willing to set aside her own happiness to make sure her friends, her family, really anyone is safe and happy before themselves.  We shall dive deeper into this later much later, but a conversation similar to this happened between L and me.

Staring out in college my major was civil engineering a very demanding and rigorous program.  I made it through the first year just getting by but the third week into my second year I was in a class called Statics essentially physics and calculus put together and I was failing.  My professor came to me and said that I should think about a different major.  I dropped the class and was angry at myself the school everything I was really close to giving up.  To the point, I wanted to leave school.  In stepped L. She said you are really intelligent.  What else can you do that you really like?  That is how I got into Horticulture.  She said you have friends here and you love the University.  Why leave and run from your problems when we can handle them together.  That is when I started thinking about, do I want to spend the rest of my life with this person?

I like Carmilla was having a rough time.  Angry and frustrated in our situations that we were both willing to quit and give up and run away from everything.  Then our L's show up and talk us down. Showed us that we were better off staying and finding a new path.  And that leaving wasn't the right answer.  Their selflessness is what made us fall in love with them.   The parallels between Laura and Carmilla are there.  Especially in this scene only that L wasn't angry with me but I was definitely in the same place Carmilla was frustrated, angry, and feeling alone.

Not All Keys Click

I'm not done with this episode.  Have you ever had a key go into a lock but it doesn't open that door?  A lot of keys fit but they don't always open the right door.  L and I live in a very old house, and we have doors everywhere.  Some with keys some without.  Some of these old keys have been worn down and don't always click into place but they open the door nun the less.  For L and me, this couldn't be more true.  It's the right key.  It's the right lock.  It's the right door, and everything will work but it just doesn't click all the time.    For Luara and Carmilla this is also true.  Maybe even more accurate than L and I.  I bring this up because Laura brings this analogy up in this episode.  I don't practically agree with her statement.  I'm guessing she will learn that not all keys have to click smoothly to open the right d...

Countess Mircalla "Carmilla" von Karnstein

Countess Mircalla "Carmilla" von Karnstein is our other main protagonist.  Carmilla was born in 1680 in Steria, Austria to a Count.  She was murdered at a ball at the age of 18.  Resurrected as a vampire by  Lilita Morgan (The Dean of Silas University).  She lived a tortured life as a pawn for Lilita luring young girls to their doom.  She eventually met a young girl Elle who she developed a relationship.  Hiding her nature from Elle, Lilita reveals to Elle that Carmilla is a vampire.  Elle rejects Carmilla running to Lilita sending Elle to her doom.  She eventually would end up at Silas University continuing to work until she met a very headstrong, nieve, shrill of a girl named Laura.  So how does a 36-year-old father of three completely relate to a 300-year-old female vampire?  You're about to hear about our differences and our similarities.        Our differen...

The End or the Beginning? (Not everything goes to plan)

The end or the beginning?  This is the question I thought about after the credits rolled.  The story was over.  Laura and Carmilla got their happy ending.  So why do I feel like this is just the beginning?  Simple they are headed to the greatest adventure in life a long relationship with your soul mate.  Learning to live with someone is quite a challenge.  L and I were at a similar point in our life as well.  So I did find something to relate to at the end of the story.           The first thing I want to do is point out how big of a moment the cocoa was in season one ( The Aha Moment )  Why? Because Laura said it was a big deal. " But we’ve had kisses, and cocoa, and stars,  and dancing.  That’s so much more than nothing." When your facing the end or what you think is the end you tend to reflect on the good things that happened.  Essentially this blog...
