Let's be honest here I am not the intended audience for Carmilla at all, not in the least.(I made this statement only seeing the first season and I couldn’t have been more wrong it’s for everyone and it should appeal to everyone) It a show about college, growing up, and finding love with someone you weren't expecting to. Plus all the supernatural stuff. In a show set up like a play, all the dialog happens in one place and the main action happens off-screen. The show is based on a novel by the same name set in the late 1800s even before Dracula was a thing, a book way before its time.
So, really? The same question my wife asked me when I told her about my sudden change. There was definitely a large amount of confusion. I can see why a 35-year-old married father of three watching a series about a lesbian vampire relationship set in college is a little strange. I can see her point. So, really? Yes, really it's a great love story that reminds me of our love story I told her.
How? How did I find Carmilla? To quote Bill Murry "Call it … fate, call it luck, call it karma, I believe everything happens for a reason." I was bored one night recently going through my youtube feed. Most of my youtube feed is filled with soccer highlights and film score music. So I'm slowly going through my feed and I was about to head to bed when I saw it Carmilla.
Why did I watch it? For starters, I have read the original book back in high school. My English teacher thought it would be enlightening for her students. So I was a little curious what a modern interpretation of the story would be like. For some reason, it showed up. For some reason, I was meant to see this. So I clicked on the link and the first episode began to play.
