"Opposites Attract Then They Drive Each Other Insane"

There is a magnet on our refrigerator that has a saying "opposites attract, fall in love, get married, and drive each other nuts." I would love to give this magnet to Carmilla and Laura.  This old saying couldn't be more true for L and me.  The reason opposites attract is the other person completes us.  They give us that opposite opinion that opposite set of ideas.  If one is an introvert the other an extrovert.  Our partners make us better they push us in ways we need to be pushed.  They tell us what we need to hear not what we want to hear.  They challenge us to be the best version of ourselves.  When L and I first started dating L always made me uncomfortable in a good way she put me in more grown-up situations.

Why do opposites attract? Simple, life would be quite boring if opposites didn't attract. When opposites attract there is definitely friction.  We also have the ability to inspire great changes in each other as well.  For Laura and Carmilla these two couldn't be more different.

Laura is young, naive, ambitious, headstrong, and unspoiled by the world. Laura has a silly sense of humor that alows her ever so often to relax (the fashion montage with Betty).  Laura believes that anyone has the power to change the world.  Laura loves to be in the heart of the action and conversations.  She loves to talk and be in a group.  Laura's best quality is she is selfless always looking out for others.

Carmilla, on the other hand, is a 16th-century vampire who has a much different look at the world.  Carmilla's sense of humor is a little dark sarcastic but shows a softer side especialy around Laura.  She is cynical and believes that the world is a dark and bruting place.  Carmilla has a more philosophical view.  She uses logic and experience to guide through problems.  She likes to sit back and observe situations only interjecting when needed.  Carmilla would rather be just one on one, than in a large group.

These two work because they are different.  They compliment each other so well.  Carmilla has a way to make Laura smile.  Laura has a way of making Carmilla feel her emotions.  Carmilla is experiencing things she hasn't experienced since Elle.  Sadness, happiness, love, and frustration are emotions that Carmilla is using for the first time in a long time.  The two have changed each other in a positive way. There are still bumps coming because they are different.  They will have to learn to adapt now that they have entered into a relationship because the new relationship smell won't last forever.  A large-scale comparison of L to Laura and me to Carmilla will come after Season 3.

Countess Mircalla "Carmilla" von Karnstein

Countess Mircalla "Carmilla" von Karnstein is our other main protagonist.  Carmilla was born in 1680 in Steria, Austria to a Count.  She was murdered at a ball at the age of 18.  Resurrected as a vampire by  Lilita Morgan (The Dean of Silas University).  She lived a tortured life as a pawn for Lilita luring young girls to their doom.  She eventually met a young girl Elle who she developed a relationship.  Hiding her nature from Elle, Lilita reveals to Elle that Carmilla is a vampire.  Elle rejects Carmilla running to Lilita sending Elle to her doom.  She eventually would end up at Silas University continuing to work until she met a very headstrong, nieve, shrill of a girl named Laura.  So how does a 36-year-old father of three completely relate to a 300-year-old female vampire?  You're about to hear about our differences and our similarities.        Our differen...

Not All Keys Click

I'm not done with this episode.  Have you ever had a key go into a lock but it doesn't open that door?  A lot of keys fit but they don't always open the right door.  L and I live in a very old house, and we have doors everywhere.  Some with keys some without.  Some of these old keys have been worn down and don't always click into place but they open the door nun the less.  For L and me, this couldn't be more true.  It's the right key.  It's the right lock.  It's the right door, and everything will work but it just doesn't click all the time.    For Luara and Carmilla this is also true.  Maybe even more accurate than L and I.  I bring this up because Laura brings this analogy up in this episode.  I don't practically agree with her statement.  I'm guessing she will learn that not all keys have to click smoothly to open the right d...

"That New Relationship Smell"

When a relationship starts it's like that new car smell everything is exciting and new.  Songs sound different, food tastes better you just feel like your floating.  You want to see this person constantly you want them all to yourself.  Time apart seems like forever.  You want to share everything about yourself with them.  Your hopes and dreams your fears and sadness.  It's like your floating on a cloud.  Something also happens our insecurities about ourselves come out and the fear of revealing these insecurities to someone so special and how they will react is scary.              "Brave New World" Episode 1 .  The episode starts in the dark and is illuminated by lightning and thunder followed by Laura turning on the lights.  Foreshadowing abounds that our young lovers are headed towards some dark times.  Carmilla is looking f...
